The Warming Center was BUZZING last night! 🔥✨
The energy was incredible as we hosted a Parenting Class for our young moms and dads! We aren't just providing warmth; we’re building stronger families. 🏠❤️

The Highlights:
• Milestones & Growth: Our parents learned how to track development and leveled up their parenting skills!

• A Full House: We had kiddos from 6 months to 10 years old filling the center with life! 👶🧒

• The Diaper Bag Hack: We used visual tools to master packing for the kids and for the parents’ own well-being. 🎒💪

• Dinner of Champions: Huge thanks to Chick-fil-A for the delicious meal! 🍗

You've heard of girl math? Well, this is PA math.

Many of us know how crowded the PA Farm Show Complex can feel when we go. Now imagine 75 times that many people! That is the reality of youth and young adult homelessness in the United States annually. Not the world, just the US!

This is why we do what we do at Thrive. Because every kid deserves a safe, stable place to call home.

(If you were wondering, youth homelessness in PA alone would almost fill the complex to max capacity once: 50,030 children and youth were experiencing homelessness in 2023-2024 according to the ECYEH Statistics Report.)

At the Open House for our Warming Center a lot of people mentioned this beautiful mural depicting Midtown, Harrisburg! It highlighted businesses and neighborhood staples like @broadstreetmarket, @midtownscholar, @susquehannaartmuseum, @radishandrye and many other @friendsofmidtown in the @thecityofhbg community. There were mini doors scattered around the mural with inspirational messages and encouraging words behind each one.

Thanks to the talented @amiebantz for painting this mural. We hope as we welcome youth and young adults to our Warming Center this month and beyond, they would be encouraged by the messages that were left behind.

We are 2 days away from our Warming Center Open House! If you haven't heard, here is everything you need to know.

Why? Before we officially begin welcoming our neighbors in need to the warming center, we want to invite community members to tour our furnished drop-in center, learn how this space will serve our neighbors, and explore Warming Center-specific volunteer roles where your time and skills can make a real impact.

Volunteers We Still Need:
The Welcomers: Who will be the first smiling face our guests see - helping us to greet and sign people in.
The Inspirers: We need guest speakers to share their story and empower our community with a motivational message.
The Pathfinders, who will acts as mentors and walk alongside someone on their journey, and
The Backbone: These are the "get-it-done" team who work behind the scenes to handle the logistics and organization of the space.

Today is always a good time to start again. Set aside the negative self talk, ignore the voice that says you can't, and surround yourself with people who are genuinely rooting for you.

Furnish the warming center with us!

This past weekend, we made significant progress on the warming center. Thank you to everyone involved, including furniture donors, volunteer movers, and those who contributed by purchasing items from my Amazon wishlist. The only remaining items needed to finalize the set up are a few cots and hygiene products.

The warming center is a safe, heated space for those experiencing homelessness, specifically 18-24 year olds to get relief from the cold in the winter months. The warming center will also offer access to case managers, community support services, and warm meals.

Our Next Level Program provides safe, semi-supervised housing and life skills support for young adults age 18-24 transitioning to independent living. Residents gain essential skills, career and education support, and opportunities to build friendships through group activities, all while working toward their personal goals.

Did you know?

Couch surfing is a form of invisible homelessness, often affecting youth.

Unlike street homelessness, it's more difficult to spot. For youth who find themselves staying on a relative, friend, or even a stranger’s couch, there is constant uncertainty, a lack of privacy, and stress that is experienced when they don't have a safe, stable place to live.

Couch surfing can lead to increased vulnerability, strain relationships, lessen access to traditional resources, and even contribute to long-term hardship.

This is why Thrive Housing Services exists - to make invisible homelessness visible and to give youth, young adults, and their families the stable housing they deserve.

The first step to change is awareness. Now that we as a community know that invisible homelessness is real, we can do something about it.

Youth in your community need you and here are some ways you can help:

This past weekend was a busy one, but also a fulfilling one - with 10 move-ins!

Our amazing team of volunteers and staff were putting together beds, organizing furniture, and distributing donations so that our residents had what they needed to move in successfully.

At Thrive, we believe everyone deserves a home. So to our newest residents, we say: Welcome Home!

Our organization was founded in 2014 to fill a gap in services for Dauphin County youth experiencing homelessness. Over the past decade, we've provided housing for young adults overcoming unsafe family dynamics, aging out of foster care, navigating single parenthood or not being able to afford rent.

No two stories are exactly same, but it's the dedication and commitment of community members, volunteers, partners, and advocates who make all the difference in the world.

This past Wednesday, we attended @senatorpattykim Youth Holiday Expo in partnership with @latinoconnection and @geisingerhealth where families gathered to celebrate the spirit of the season and get the resources they need to be successful during the holiday.

The room was full of organizations coming together to share access to opportunities and and restoring hope and dignity to families in need.
